Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a tooth coloured resin that is used in several ways to repair or restore a tooth or teeth.

Dental bonding uses

Dental bonding uses are;

1. In place of silver fillings

2. To change the shape of a tooth

3. To lengthen a tooth

4. Cover stains

5. Repair chips

6. Repair decay

7. To fill in gaps between teeth

Unlike veneers that have to be custom made, bonding is done in the office by the dentist; which, makes it more cost-effective for many patients.

Unfortunately, not everyone is a candidate for bonding; it will depend on how bad the tooth is when it comes to decay or breaks.

One advantage to bonding is there is rarely a need for anesthesia unless it is used to fill a cavity.

Will bonding have to be redone?

Bonding will not last as long as veneers but you should be able to make them last about 10 years with proper care.

After that, you will need to have the bonding done again since bonding like natural teeth or veneers the bonding wears with use.

You will need to avoid certain foods such as hard candy, ice cubes, or other hard substances that could crack or chip the resin bonding.

You also need to remember that certain foods and drinks such as coffee or wine will stain the bonding so try to avoid them as much as possible.

The procedure

Once the colour has been chosen, the dentist will abrade or etch the tooth and apply the resin.

It is then, shaped and molded, after which it is hardened by ultraviolet light.

This usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes to complete for one tooth.
